Wayne’s background in risk management is highly diversified from public sector to manufacturing to real estate, including risk management consulting and heading up a national risk management educational designation program.

Wayne is currently Vice President of Risk Management for Metro National Corporation, where he has worked for the past thirteen years.  MetroNational is primarily a real estate sales, development, leasing and management company.  MetroNational’s more prominent property holding is Memorial City which includes Memorial City Mall, the Memorial City Memorial Hermann Hospital complex, the Westin Hotel, numerous office building, retail centers, and apartments.  MetroNational participates in an 831 (b) Captive insurance program, CART.  Wayne serves as Vice President of CART.  Wayne now serves on the Board of the Texas Captive Insurance Association (TCIA) in Austin, Texas.  Wayne also serves on the Advisory Board of the University of Houston Downtown’s Insurance and Risk Management degree program.

Prior to working at MetroNational, Wayne spent four years in Austin working for The National Alliance as Vice President of the CRM (Certified Risk Managers) professional designation program.  He worked closely with RIMS national office in promoting the CRM designation and was an original RIMS Fellow Advisory Committee member involved in the formation of that advanced risk management designation program.

He worked for three years with now USI in Houston as Vice President of Risk Management Services heading up that subsidiary consulting operation.  Before that, he was Director of Risk Management for Imperial Sugar Company in Sugar Land for eight years.  Wayne’s start in risk management came as Risk Manager for the City of Lafayette, Louisiana for an eight year period which brought him to Houston with then Johnson & Higgins as an Account Executive involved in the management of state governmental pooling operations.  That position led him to Imperial Sugar.  Wayne’s entree into the insurance industry was as an insurance adjuster with Crawford and Company and later as a Regional Claims Supervisor with American Mutual Insurance Company before starting in risk management with the City of Lafayette.

Wayne first earned the ARM designation 1992 and has since earned the CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor), the CRM (Certified Risk Manger),  RF (RIMS Fellow) and CRIS (Construction Risk Insurance Specialist) designations.  He also holds a Texas Risk Manager’s License and a Texas Property & Casualty Agent’s License.  He has contributed numerous articles to Rough Notes and Resources magazines.  Wayne is a graduate of the University of Louisiana with degrees in Economics and Political Science and is a past Membership Chairman of the UL Alumni Association and former President of the UL Alumni Chapter in Houston.

Wayne is married to Debbie Dunlap Dauterive. Debbie is a University of Texas graduate and is CEO of Host Staff, LLC, a hospitality staffing company in Houston.  They have one son, Christopher, who is a practicing Oral Surgeon in Houston.  Chris’ wife, Kacie, is also a dentist and is currently in a Pediatric Residency program while working on her Master of Science in Dentistry.
